Step 11: Conditional Formatting – Drawing Attention to Grid Items

The Display Wizard’s Conditional Formatting page allows the builder to define custom formatting for the rows or individual cells within a Grid Display based upon the values in a column that the builder identifies.  In short, a filter is created (using a similar manner as with the Static Grouping).

1.     If there are no groups in the Appearance -> Conditional Formatting page, click on the New definition button.

2.     Within the New Definition section is a filter that is similar in operation as the Filter Builder.

Select column: Choose the column from the list/library to be filtered.

Select operator: Choose the operator for the filter.

Enter Value: Enter the value the grouping is going to be looking for.  For example, the Grouping could be looking for all items where the Status column is Equal to Completed.

You can simply type in the value you want to find, or you can use the [ME] function to group on the currently logged in user.

If the group is being built based on a date column, any of the functions listed in the table provided in the Filtering section of this help can also be used.

3.     If the filter is complex, complete the filter information for the next two rows.

4.     Under the filter section is a place for the formatting of the Grid.  There are three options: change the Row Style, change a Cell Style, and/or add an image into the row.

Row Style: Choose the Background color, Font color, and Formatting for the row.  The options selected here will be applied to the row where the filter is true.

Cell Style: In the first drop-down, select the column to which the formatting should be applied.  Next. choose the Background color, Font color, and Formatting for the row.  The options selected here will be applied to the column when the filter is true.

Image URL: blank by default.  Supply a URL (fully or relative) to an image to be displayed as a new column within the Grid.  Be sure the image is small as large images may be cropped due to Grid formatting limitations.

5.     To add another Conditional Formatting definition, click on the New definition button.

6.     To remove a Conditional formatting definition, click the ‘x’ along the right side of the definition.

7.     Once all necessary changes have been made, click on the Apply icon (Title: Apply Icon - Description: Apply Icon) to save the settings.
