The View Details page is the first Display Wizard page displayed after a View is selected. It is used to identify the view name and description, and select the specific type of view being created or edited.
This is the name that is shown to end users, in the Views drop-down on the top left side of the Grid Display. It is also the name that you see when you are on the Views page, and at the top of all other Display Wizard pages.
NOTE: View names support the use of the following
special characters:
:{}[]\|=+asdf!@#$%^&**())_'";;
The view description is optional, but can be helpful to your users. When a user hovers over a view name in the Views drop-down on the Grid Display's toolbar, the description you provide here is displayed in a pop-up. If no description is provided on this page, the pop-up will not be displayed.
There are three available view types for a Grid Display:
• Standard View – A basic Grid Display that contains SharePoint data.
• Advanced View (XML Based) – A Grid Display that contains data fed from a Toolset site; you must have purchased the Data Integration Toolset in order to use this option.
• Parent-Child View – A Grid Display that shows the contents of two or more related SharePoint lists at once, one defined as the parent list and one or more defined as the child of grandchild list, which share at least one column of common data. Note: this option will display in the older v11.1 interface.
The most common type of view is the Standard View, so that is what is discussed in the following sections. Click here for details on creating an Advanced XML View, or click here for details on creating a Parent-Child View.
