There are three available view types for a Menu Navigation Display:
• Menu Designer – This view type allows the builder to use a graphical interface to determine the items to be displayed by the Menu Navigation, and how each item is to be displayed.
• Menu Navigation List – This view type is used when the builder wants to reference a Menu Navigation list that includes columns for an image and a description.
• Cascading Navigation List – Provided for backward compatibility, this display is based on a list-based navigation structure used in older CorasWorks products.
This view type allows the builder to use a graphical interface to determine the items to be displayed by the Menu Navigation, and how each item is to be displayed. This is the default selection.
When this view type is selected, the builder makes selections on later wizard pages to identify the sites and pages to be referenced by the Menu Navigation, as described later in this chapter. Menu items can be located in the current site, in another site identified by the builder, or identified in a central view.
A benefit to using this view type is that it is not tied to a list, so the Menu Navigation can be exported to another page or site and the builder does not have to worry about adding a list. It also allows the builder to create new pages on the fly and add them to the Menu Navigation.
This view type is used when the builder wants to reference a Menu Navigation list that includes columns for an image and a description. This is similar to the method that was utilized in older releases of the CorasWorks Workplace Suite, so it may be a popular choice for existing customers.
A benefit to using this view type is that several Menu Navigation views and/or iterations can be pointed to the same list to obtain their menu settings. Then, the menu systems you build can be updated from a single location, so you can make changes across several pages at once just by modifying a single navigation list. In addition, you can use native list authentication to make menu options invisible to users who do not have access to a particular list.
A list template is provided within the CorasWorks v11 packaging for creating lists to support this View type.
This view type is used when the builder wants to reference a Cascading Navigation list that does not include columns for an image or a description. It supports the navigation lists that were used in Special Site Navigation (SSN) component found in the v9/Fall 2007 releases of the CorasWorks Workplace Suite. This has the same benefits and procedures as the Menu Navigation List view, but has been deprecated as a feature.
