Filtering allows you to limit the items returned by a Data Display to only those that meet certain criteria. When a filter is performed, the Data Display looks for matches on the metadata returned by the Data Display. Users can further refine the results by performing searches on a filtered Data Display.
The Filtering page provides two options for defining a filter: defining the filter manually or using the Filter Builder. Most users will use the Filter Builder, which is a series of fields that make it easier for non-technical individuals to define filters because it is not necessary to know the correct syntax; the fields prompt you for each necessary piece of information.
NOTE: The Filter Builder =supports the use of date-related functions (e.g., [Today], [CurrentWeekEnd]) and date math (e.g., -1 for 24 hours ago, 7 for 7 days from now) against calculated columns.
TIP: A filter should be used when you want to look for the identified text or data in a particular column. Search, on the other hand, looks through all searchable columns in the list(s) for the identified text or data.
