The steps to install v11 on multi-server environments are slightly different than for single server environments. If you have a multi-server environment, please follow these procedures, instead of those for the single server.
If you have not already done so, stop all of the application pools that SharePoint is using except for Central Administration’s application pool.
•Procedures for stopping and starting application pools on IIS 7 can be found here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732742.aspx
|
NOTE |
The application pools have to be stopped in order to grant the Installation Manager exclusive access to SharePoint. This prevents any other work from being accepted and processed by SharePoint, eliminating resource contention between the Installation Manager and SharePoint. Stopping the app pools can also reduce the amount of time necessary to install v11 and reduce the potential of installation errors that may be encountered when contending for resources. |
