Delete Web.Config Timer Jobs

In the past, if you looked at the Timer Job Definitions in SharePoint after installing or updating v11 or the Workplace Suite, you would see that there were a number of timer jobs and null entries that remained. Some of those jobs would tend to run again, so customers noticed a large number of failed timer jobs. The only way to get rid of these entries was to click on an item, select Delete, and remove the entries one at a time. In a larger environment, this could add up to thousands of entries.

Two tools to address this issue are available in the CorasWorks Installation Manager” the Web.Config Cleanup and the Null Checker. If you have multiple web front ends, it is not necessary to install either of these new tools on each front end. They are always applied to the farm.

1.  To determine whether or not there are any timer jobs that should be removed, access SharePoint Central Administration. Select Operations/Global Configuration/Timer Job Definitions.

2.  If you see any timer jobs that should be deleted, highlight the name and copy it.

3.  Open the CorasWorks Installation Manager, click on the Tools menu, and select Delete Web.config timer jobs. A window like this is shown.

4.  Paste in the name of the timer job you copied above or type in the name and click OK.

The most common entries that you will want to delete are “CorasWorks CCConfig Web Config Update” and “CCConfig Update.”

Make sure you do not delete “CorasWorks Notification Service.”

5.  In a few moments, the lower area on the window says “Timer jobs deleted.” Click Close to close the window. If you return to the timer job definitions now and refresh the page, you will see that all of the items with the name you identified above have been removed.

NOTE: This tool has been designed to be as open as possible, so it can also be used to delete timer jobs from other vendors or sources.
