Create a New Central View

To create a new central view, simply click on the Create New View link on the Central Views Wizard landing page. The Create New Central View page is displayed.

1.  Type the name of the new central view to create at the prompt for a View Name. This is the name that will be used to identify the central view when a builder chooses to add it to a data display or navigation display, and how the view name will be shown to the end user on the Views drop-down if it is used on a data display.

2.  Provide any descriptive information about the central view in the View Description field. This property is optional. This will be visible to the builder when they choose from the available central views, and to the end user when they hover over the view name in the Views drop-down.

3.  If you wish to use categories to organize your central views, type the name of the appropriate category in the View Category field. This will be visible to the builder when they choose from the available central views to add to a data or navigation display.

4.  The Display Type drop-down defaults to Action Launcher, which is the first type of display as presented in an alphabetical list. Select the desired type of display view to be created from this drop-down. Central views can be created for any data display or any navigation display.

5.  Click the Next button at the bottom of the page. The Display Wizard that corresponds to the selected display type is shown next on top of the Central Views Wizard.

While the Central Views Wizard can be used to create views for any type of data display or navigation display, it cannot be used to create all types of views for these displays. As of the current release, only the default type of view for each type of display can be created as a central view.  For example, you can create a Menu Designer view for Menu Navigation, but not a Menu Navigation List view or Cascading Navigation List view.

As a result, when the Display Wizard is accessed by the Central Views Wizard, it does not include the Views page or the View Details page. Instead, the builder is brought to the first applicable page of the Display Wizard for the selected type of display. The table below states the first Display Wizard page shown by the Central Views Wizard for each display type.

6.  The default properties are automatically set for the new central view, and can be modified as necessary. As with a standard (non-central) view, there is a minimum set of properties that need to be defined. This typically includes the sites, lists, and columns to reference, depending on the display type. The method to navigate the Display Wizard and set the properties is the same as is described for the data displays and navigation displays.

7.  When you are finished defining the properties for the new central view, click the Finish button at the bottom of the Display Wizard page. The new view is saved and you are returned to the Central Views Wizard landing page. The central view can now be referenced from any of the same type of display for which it was created.
